LKKV and Karlovy Vary - Basic Info
  • The spa Karlovy Vary is located in the western part of Czech Republic in a beautifull valley with many natural springs, the walley is visible in the FS scenery as well). A small international airport is located just 5 miles to the east from the city The airport is a "mountain-class" airport with over 2000ft of the runway altitude. The actual air traffic is formed mostly by small privat jets and charters. Scheduled flights are currently only from Prague and Moscow (a CSA Boeing 737, 4 times a week).
  • LKKV (Karlovy Vary) has a concrete, 2150m long runway marked as 11/29. Only a LLZ DME (not ILS !!!) or NDB DME instrument approaches are available for the 29 direction; whereas only an NDB DME instrument approach is available from the 11 direction. So you must use charts to follow the right descend path (no glideslope indication is present) - that's good for training purposes for both real life and VATSIM flying too.
  • LKKV has three stands for airliners, mostly commonly only nr. 1 and 3 are occupied. Then there are GA parking stands for many small GAs. All aircraft below 5700kg MTOW can expect parking here. Due to a low strength of taxiway A, taxi procedures for airliners are slightly different from those on other airports (see SOP).
  • Try the LLZ approach to LKKV to see the beautifull spa walley from the cockpit, the virtual TWR and APP are all the time friendly to all incoming pilots!
